Lisa has been in business officially for 3 years. Before that, she worked using the same skills, she just didn’t call it Life Coaching.

What did you call it?

I worked at a local church. My title was Sacramental Coordinator or Adult Education Coordinator. I created programming that helped adults find inner peace and learn how to deal with life’s challenges.

What are the main points to describe your business and what you do?

A coach is someone who brings out the best in a person so they can live their best life.

We don’t FIX anyone. They are already perfect. They have just forgotten who they are. We bring them back to their essence – to their authentic selves. That is always such a joyous thing for me; to see them light up when they look at THEMSELVES in the mirror. And they admire who they are. That is my greatest joy.

What has been your evolution? How did you get from there to here?

I feel like I have always wanted to help people. That is the bottom line. I was a teacher of 3rd graders, bringing out the best in them. That was my passion until I had my own children. I took a break from teaching and took a part-time job at the church. I made that job my own. I really wanted to help people see that there was so much more to life than the drudgery of just going to work and coming home. We only get this one life so why not make the best of it. I did that for 20 years until there was a shift at the church.

I didn’t know what I wanted to do next. My daughter said, “Hey, mom, I see you as a life coach. Just go be certified and keep doing what you are doing”. So I did that.

Where did you go?

I was certified at the Life Coaching Institute of Orange County, California. I took additional training at Infinite Possibilities Training. This is all about bringing out the positive in yourself and in life. Then I did a Landmark Forum. This is incredible work.

What is that?

That has been around for years and years and years and yet I just heard about it! It talks about how to live life authentically and beautifully. It was a landmark in my life. It has changed how I coach. It has changed how I live my own life.

What have been your greatest stumbling blocks –personally or in business?

Personally, it’s just getting the word out – the marketing piece. It takes so much time to get the word out about who you are and what you do. Life Coaching is relatively new. It is not counseling. Life Coaching is all about moving forward. Many times. Counseling looks back and attempts to get you to see your past in a different light. There is certainly a place for that. I ask the questions, “Where do you want to be”? We can’t change where you have been.

Another challenge is finding people who will value this work. Once you attain an inner confidence, the material things people sometimes put so much focus on, pale in comparison from the results you get from this coaching.

Do people have any misconceptions about you or your business?

The counseling versus coaching dilemma is one. The other is why we are not covered by insurance. Since counselling is covered, why not personal coaching? I believe one day we will be as people begin to see the value of prevention in all aspects of life – not just medically but emotionally.

If you could have a ‘Do-over’, what would you do differently either in your business or for yourself?

Years ago, I would have answered that question differently. Today I say, everything that has happened to me, whether it be challenging or not, has all been for a reason. I do not believe I would change anything.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

I see myself helping more and more people. My goal is to reach more people to help them love their life. The greatest thing we can do for peace in the world is to find peace within. It has to start there. There is no way we can work for peace in the world if we are in turmoil. Even if I only help 2, 3, 4 people, that begins a ripple effect in the world. I am proud of that.

I also love to travel and I love to speak to groups. Those are opportunities I will be watching out for.
